Enterasys, the networking division of Siemens Enterprise Communications Group, has won a converged network deployment contract at Campos, a municipality on the Spanish island of Mallorca. Under the terms of the deal, Enterasys Networks will deploy a network infrastructure to create an integrated voice, video and data communications platform for the city's government agencies, citizens and tourists. The Gigabit Ethernet network is designed to provide secure connectivity for VoIP, video surveillance, data communications and internet access services to enhance information sharing throughout the region. In addition to Gigabit Ethernet capabilities, the network delivers QoS levels for critical applications and services via Enterasys' advanced prioritization and granular control of network traffic. The Campos network also includes Enterasys N-Series switches in the main building and A, B and C-Series switches in remote offices. Serving around 9,000 residents and an increasing number of tourists, the Campos city council plans to use the new network to facilitate communications for police, city hall, tax collection, retirement homes and a youth services centre. Future network expansion plans include a cultural centre and a multipurpose facility.
