Vitesse Semiconductor Corp., a provider of advanced IC solutions for Carrier and Enterprise networks, announced that Accton Technology Corp. of Taiwan (TAIEX:2345), a global provider of networking and communications solutions, has selected Vitesse's E-StaX-34 28-port, fully managed Gigabit Ethernet Switch integrated circuit (IC) to power its new network controller appliances utilized for monitoring, controlling, and protecting Enterprise Networks.
Targeted at fully managed standalone or stackable switches, the QoS and advanced security features of Vitesse's E-StaX-34 make it ideal for Enterprise applications, VoIP, servers, IP-TV and triple-play enabled switches. With non-blocking switching performance and 11 Mbit large packet memory, the E-StaX-34 is also a perfect choice for use in embedded switch backplane applications, such as modular computer servers and Telecom access equipment.
"The Vitesse E-StaX switch chipset devices play a critical role in our ability to deliver best-of-class, competitively priced Enterprise solutions," said CK Ng, director of brand division marketing at Edge-Core. "We have significantly reduced the cost of our solution and shortened time-to-market thanks to the advanced integration level of Vitesse's devices and turn-key software solution. Also, with the Accton software integration capability, Edge-Core will be able to deliver unique features to our clients, enhancing the support for triple-play applications."
The advanced security and traffic prioritizing features of the E-StaX device are delivered through the Vitesse Content Aware Processor (VCAP), a Ternary Content Addressable Memory (TCAM)-based engine that delivers wire-speed packet inspection, frame filtering, rate limitation, snooping, redirect, mirroring, and accounting functionality used in security and other heavy packet inspection applications. The VCAP embeds support for a variety of protocols, such as ARP, IPv4, IPv6, and UDP/TCP. E-Stax-34 also integrates an ARM9 processor, thereby delivering a high-integration fully managed Layer 2 Gigabit Ethernet switching solution with more than 20 fewer components per port, the company noted.
"Market realities are driving the need for increased bandwidth, control and management in networking applications," said Uday Mudoi, director of marketing for Vitesse. "The advanced switch device, E-StaX-34, uniquely helps our Carrier and Enterprise customers meet these challenges head on with strong turnkey software platforms that deliver greater efficiency, lower cost and faster time-to-market."
