Medworxx Announces New Independent Assessment Platform to Enhance Support for Alternate Level of Care (ALC) Ontario Guidelines

Medworxx (TSX VENTURE:MWX), provider of healthcare solutions for decision support, compliance and education, announced today a new independent assessment platform that will enhance support of the new standardized Ontario Alternate Level of Care (ALC) definition.

In early spring, the Ontario Wait Time Information Program (WTIP), Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), in consultation with other partners, released a standardized Provincial Alternate Level of Care (ALC) definition. Communication and education efforts are underway for this definition and Ontario hospitals are to commence using this standardized definition July 1, 2009.

Medworxx has been closely following the developments of this new definition. The Medworxx Utilization Management System (UMS) continues to comply with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) ALC definition and it also complies with the recently released Provincial ALC definition for Ontario.

According to the Ontario Health Association, there are approximately 30,000 hospital beds staffed and in operation in Ontario. Currently, the Medworxx UMS is used in hospitals in Ontario managing over 5,600 of those beds. The new Independent Assessment platform can be used with existing Medworxx solutions or standalone.

Medworxx is pleased to announce the development of a new platform to support Independent Assessments. The Independent Assessment platform is a powerful application that allows hospitals to perform additional assessments on patients. The first item released for our new Independent Assessment platform addresses Alternative Level of Care (ALC). The Medworxx ALC Status Independent Assessment will be available shortly to better assist hospitals and organizations to capture enhanced detail for superior reporting on the new Ontario standardized ALC Definition. This module will specifically address prompt ALC designation and provide a new ALC Status feature to record and monitor ALC status, discharge destination and chronic co-payment details. It will also provide the flexibility and configurability to capture additional details around organizational specific terminology and processes.

"The Independent Assessment Platform will be valuable for all Medworxx UMS customers, especially those in Ontario, and to all Ontario hospitals whether or not they are currently using Medworxx solutions", said Wendy McLaughlin, Director of Clinical Services, Medworxx. "We are pleased to the release of this platform coincides with the release of the standardized Ontario ALC Definition."
