Customers Experience Fewer Dropped Calls with Cincinnati Bell
CINCINNATI, Jun 12, 2009 -- Based on the recent report of an independent testing organization, Cincinnati Bell Inc. (NYSE:CBB) continues to operate the best wireless network* in Cincinnati and Dayton. Extensive testing and analysis conducted by an independent third-party testing organization confirmed that Cincinnati Bell Wireless has the fewest dropped calls of any wireless network in Cincinnati and Dayton. This is the third time since 2005 that Cincinnati Bell's network has outperformed the competition.
"We take great pride in providing customers with the best wireless coverage in Cincinnati and Dayton by employing local engineers and technicians who help ensure the best calling experience in the areas where our customers live and work," said Tim Bracken, director of postpaid wireless for Cincinnati Bell. "Our efforts to provide great coverage are not limited to local markets. We have agreements with hundreds of other operators to ensure Cincinnati Bell Wireless customers receive superior coverage both nationally and globally."
The testing included gathering and processing data from more than 42,000 calls that were placed on the networks of the area's six largest wireless carriers: Cincinnati Bell, AT&T, Cricket, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless. Calls were made while driving more than 1,900 miles in and around Cincinnati and Dayton. The study also evaluated in-building performance based on calls made from the public areas of various buildings during normal business hours. Compared with test calls placed on competing networks, Cincinnati Bell's network had less than half the rate of dropped calls, a key indicator of overall network quality.
As a local company with strong ties to the community, Cincinnati Bell takes additional measures to increase wireless coverage when periods of concentrated usage are expected. For example, the company uses portable cell sites known as "Cell on Wheels" or COWS and other equipment to help boost connectivity during events such as Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Fireworks or at locations like Great American Ball Park and Paul Brown Stadium. In total, Cincinnati Bell's network includes more than 1,000 cell sites located in Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky and Dayton. The Cincinnati Bell Wireless network covers roughly 4,800 square miles and handles approximately 450 million minutes of talk time per month or about 15 million minutes a day.
Cincinnati Bell has extensive roaming agreements that ensure its customers receive coverage throughout the United States and in 150 countries around the world. For more information about Cincinnati Bell Wireless rate plans and handsets, visit www.cbwireless.com.
