Technology firm Aconex said it has been selected by Balfour Beatty Ansaldo Systems Joint Venture to provide its online project collaboration system to the US$430 million Ipoh to Padang Besar Double Tracking Rail Extension in Malaysia.
Aconex will be used to manage information and link organizations involved in the systems works package.
The project comprises the design, supply, installation and commissioning of all electrification, signaling and communications for 330 kilometers of new electrified double track railway. Expected to be completed in 2013, the new project will increase line speed and track capacity while enhancing safety.
Aconex will provide its web-based project collaboration system for managing information such as drawings, documents and correspondence. Through using the system, the BBAS team and its project partners will be able to access, distribute and track their information in real time using a single, central platform.
Neil Ankcorn, BBAS Project Planning and Controls Manager said: "As this project involves a large team of both domestic and overseas-based participants, we require a central, integrated system for storing and exchanging information. With Aconex, all project members will be able to log into the system to quickly retrieve the files they need and correspond with other parties. This will improve efficiency, saving us time and cost associated with information exchange."
The project is part of a large railway investment by the State of Malaysia to create a modern and efficient railway connection between Kuala Lumpur and the Thai border, with the long-term objective of establishing a Pan-Asian Link connecting Singapore to China.
Aconex is a provider of online collaboration to the construction, infrastructure and resources industries.
