Interactive Data Completes Upgrade of U.S. East Coast Data Center

Interactive Data Corp., a provider of financial market data, analytics and related solutions, announced that it has completed a significant upgrade of its U.S. East Coast data center.

Opened in 2004 and located in Boxborough, Mass., the 50,000 square foot facility is designed to provide 7 (day) x 24 (hour) x 365 (days per year) operational support.

Interactive Data's data center upgrade project has more than doubled the facility's capacity, while maximizing overall efficiency, particularly in regard to energy consumption. The upgrade includes the build-out of a new data center room with a highly redundant and high density power and cooling infrastructure. This room can accommodate 3,000-4,000 computer servers, which can help support the Company's data collection, processing and delivery requirements worldwide.

According to a release, enhancements to the Company's data center also include "green" energy capabilities for controlling power usage and heat generation resulting from utilizing the facility's IT equipment. For instance, Interactive Data's new electrical infrastructure features higher performance power distribution units that are designed to help contain operational costs. In addition, Interactive Data has installed energy-efficient in-row cooling units inside the data center and "chillers" located outside the building. These chillers utilize outside air when the temperature is approximately 50 degrees and below, reducing the amount of energy allocated to cooling.

"Interactive Data's mission-critical products and services are powered by our state-of-the-art data center, and our continued investment in this facility can help us to further scale our global business and meet the mission-critical needs of financial institutions around the world," said John King, chief operating officer for Interactive Data. "Our dedicated team of IT and operations professionals has implemented a variety of cost-effective measures to conserve space, maximize computing power and control energy usage. In a business environment characterized by volatility and high volume, low-latency data demands, it's important that we align our technology infrastructure to help ensure resiliency, reliability, high performance and efficiency."
