Voltaire introduces 40Gb/s InfiniBand solutions for HP ProLiant SL6000

Voltaire Ltd (Nasdaq:VOLT) announced on Tuesday that its 40Gb/s InfiniBand solutions are available for HP ProLiant SL6000 Scalable System, part of the new HP (NYSE:HPQ) Extreme Scale-Out (ExSO) portfolio.

Voltaire, a provider of scale-out data centre fabrics, said the solution is particularly suitable for scale-out data centres that enable high performance computing (HPC), as well as cloud-based services and Web 2.0 businesses.

The combination of the company's software and InfiniBand switching capabilities bring high-performance, low latency and scalability to HP's newest server offering, optimised for scale-out customers to reduce costs, increase power efficiency and maintain flexibility. The 40Gb/s InfiniBand switches require less than 6W per port power consumption, which helps increase the overall solution's high density per watt.

The new solution for high-performance computing customers from HP combines Voltaire's Grid Director 40Gb/s InfiniBand switches with the HP ProLiant SL6000 server family, which uses an ultra-efficient, modular 'skinless' systems architecture that replaces the chassis and rack form factors with a lightweight rail and tray design.

The solution also uses Voltaire OFED software, which offers Quality of Service (QoS) management capabilities that enable unified LAN, IPC and SAN applications over the same wire.

The solution is expected to be available from HP in summer 2009. No pricing details were disclosed.
