Verizon Wireless expands network in Queens

US mobile network operator Verizon Wireless has announced it has activated a new cell site in Jackson Heights.

According to the company, the new cell site improves network coverage and capacity along 37th Avenue and Northern Boulevard from 80th to 89th streets.

The company said that in 2008 it invested USD238m to enhance services and coverage throughout metro New York and New Jersey in 2008, bringing total network investment in the region to over USD2.2bn since 2000.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture between Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE:VOD) (LSE:VOD).
