Citrix Systems, Inc. announced that it has supplied General Dynamics with over 1,500 Citrix WANScaler units that will be used for satellite bandwidth for the U.S. Army and its WIN-T (Warfighter Information Network-Tactical) initiative.
WIN-T is the Army's communications network which links warfighters on the battlefield with the Global Information Grid (GIG).
With Citrix WANScaler, the Army has an appliance that supports the Space Communication Protocol Standards (SCPS) and uses flow control capabilities to ensure that data and applications are delivered, with no latency issues, to the end-user. Citrix WANScaler helps the Army meet one of the goals of helping the CIO G-6's 500 day play, which is the delivery of LandWarNet to soldiers. LandWarNet is the Army's information capabilities, associated processes, and personnel for collecting, processing, storing, disseminating, and managing information for supporting warfighters, policy makers, and support personnel.
"This solution enables the Army to provide its forward-deployed soldiers with real-time applications and information via their existing tactical networks," said Tom Simmons, area vice president for Citrix Federal. "We're proud and honored to support the mission of WIN-T and the warfighters it serves."
WIN-T is an enabler of LandWarNet, the Army's part of GIG that includes all Army networks. WIN-T introduces a mobile, ad-hoc, self-configuring and self-healing network using satellite on-the-move capabilities, network management and radio systems.
