'Asda expands Sim-only sales'

UK supermarket chain Asda is expanding its Sim-only mobile phone sales. The retailer has expanded its consumer website offering up to 72 handset models on Sim-only from all top vendors, Mobile News reports. The new online store, asda-phones.co.uk, went live 22 June, selling a range of phones from the budget Motorola W156 up to the GBP 825 Nokia 8800 Carbon Arte. Previously Asda only sold six Sim-free handsets, all low-end Nokia devices. The website also enables customers to buy an Asda prepay Sim pack for GBP 0.47, offering rates of GBP 0.08 per minute, GBP 0.04 per text and GBP 0.20 per MB of web browsing. Asda will use internal marketing to promote the website and will add a link to its main mobile website, which receives around two million visitors each week.
