Shentel: Sprint Adds Wireless Network Coverage in York County, Pa.
Jul 03, 2009 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) --
Shenandoah Telecommunications (Shentel) announced the addition of an antenna designed to expand broadband mobile network coverage in York County.
The new cell site at 16 College Avenue went online Friday, June 5th, giving businesses and residents of Stewartstown access to Sprint. In April 2009, Shentel brought new equipment online along Bull Road in Dover to boost coverage in Dover and Wellsville, and along High Point Road in Felton to bring coverage to the towns of Graydon, Winterstown and Rimely. Previously, Shentel announced the siting of towers in Airville, East Berlin, Mount Wolf, Red Lion, Spring Grove and Thomasville.
The York County implementations are part of an effort by Shentel to expand coverage, increase capacity and enhance the quality of its wireless network. Shentel provides Sprint Network coverage along the I-81 corridor from Harrisonburg, Va. to Harrisburg, York and Altoona, Pa. In 2009, Shentel said it is committing over 41 percent of its $73 million capital budget to finance the infrastructure investments needed to bring wireless voice and Internet to all its service areas, including previously uncovered regions.
Christopher French, Shentel President and CEO, said, "Expanding and improving wireless broadband coverage in York County-and all 13 of the Pennsylvania counties we serve-are Shentel's top priorities. As proof of this commitment, we have brought 46 new sites online in the last year. Across our entire mid-Atlantic coverage area, Shentel has added 68 new cell sites in the past year and spent over $34 million in infrastructure improvements. With each installation, thousands of individuals and businesses gain new or improved access to the power of the Sprint network. This access helps us keep pace with growing consumer demand for mobile broadband services."
Shenandoah Telecommunications is a holding company that provides telecommunications products and services through its operating subsidiaries.
