'BA will not offer mobile services on existing aircraft'

British Airways (BA) has no plans to install in-flight mobile communications technology on aircraft already in service, reports silicon.com. It plans to offer mobile e-mail, texting and web browsing on two new Airbus A318s from September. Speaking at the Sita Air Transport IT Summit 2009 conference in Cannes, CEO Willie Walsh said it would be too expensive to install the equipment on existing aircraft. He also said that passengers had not shown any interest in making mobile calls during flights.
