Gregory Wilk from Rolling Meadows High School and Sarah Smietana from Fremd High School both received the merit-based scholarship for their excellent academic achievement and community involvement. This fall Wilk will attend the University of Illinois in Champaign while Smietana will study at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

"This scholarship program enables us to support gifted young adults who demonstrate a talent for math and science, and to encourage an interest in engineering," said John Buckley, vice president of Engineering & Manufacturing, Central Region for Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. "Northrop Grumman relies on specialized engineering personnel in order to succeed, and we are happy to support bright students in their pursuit of a career in engineering."

The Engineering Scholars program is intended to motivate promising high school seniors interested in math and science to consider the field of engineering. To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be residents of Rolling Meadows, Palatine or Arlington Heights and be seniors graduating in the spring of 2009 from a public or accredited private high school in the area. Applicants must also meet minimum SAT and GPA requirements.
