Verizon expands wireless network in Georgetown, Kentucky

US wireless communications company Verizon Wireless has activated a new cell site in Georgetown, Kentucky, the company announced on Wednesday.

The company said that this new cells site will enable more customers to enjoy clearer reception and fewer dropped calls.

The new cell site, which is equipped with a permanent backup generator for times of emergency, reportedly improves voice and data coverage in downtown Georgetown and along Main Street (US Route 460) as far east as Interstate 75 and as far west as Hillside Drive, as well as US Route 25 as far north as Payne Avenue and as far south as Showalter Drive.

Verizon Wireless said that it has invested over USD47m in 2008 in its wireless network in Kentucky, to increase the coverage and capacity of its network and to add new services.

Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) and Vodafone (NYSE:VOD) (LSE: VOD).
