Telecoms equipment company Alcatel-Lucent has appointed Olivier Lauras as head of the company's business in Vietnam, effective August 1. He will report to Nicolas Van Den Abeele, head of the company's activities in South and South East Asia.
Olivier will take the lead on strategic business directions for the company in Vietnam. Prior to his new role, he served as chief executing officer for Alcatel-Lucent Pakistan and country senior officer for Pakistan and Afghanistan. He has been working with Alcatel-Lucent since 1996, and has held several management positions in Europe, America and Asia. The company serves major fixed and mobile operators in Vietnam, and currently has a staff of 250.
Sean Dolan, president at Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific, said: "I am very pleased to have Olivier on board in Vietnam to support the ever-increasing potential in this market. Olivier's international experience in sales and operations will reinforce the company's business and presence in the country, and extend the growth path that Alcatel-Lucent has developed in this market."
Earlier this month, the company appointed Ken Wirth as president of the company's 4G/LTE Wireless Networks business. It also reported a net income of E14m ($20m) for the second quarter 2009, compared to a loss of E1.1 billion ($1.57 billion) in the year-ago quarter, on revenue down 5% at E3.9 billion ($5.56 billion).
