Hamilton Sundstrand Selected to Supply Multiple Systems on New Russian Airliner

Irkut has selected Hamilton Sundstrand to supply multiple systems for the MC-21 commercial aircraft family. Hamilton Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies.

Hamilton Sundstrand will develop the Electric Power Generating System, secondary electrical power distribution, Auxiliary Power Unit, wing anti-ice and bleed air conditioning for the Nitrogen Generation System. In addition, Hamilton Sundstrand will jointly develop the integrated Air Management System together with its partner NPO Nauka, while Kidde Aerospace & Defense, a Hamilton Sundstrand subsidiary, has been selected to supply the fire detection and suppression system.

The award is expected to be worth approximately $2.3 billion over the life of the program.

Slated to enter service in 2016, the MC-21 is Irkut Corp.'s newest aircraft model, accommodating between 150 and 230 passengers in three basic versions.

Hamilton Sundstrand's systems deliver technology which will create a more efficient aircraft. "Hamilton Sundstrand is proud to be a major supplier for Irkut Corp.'s new MC-21 commercial aircraft family," said Joe Triompo, president, Hamilton Sundstrand Aerospace Power Systems. "Our unique ability to create value by integrating multiple systems provides the MC-21 aircraft a light weight solution with low technical risk and proven reliability in service."

With 2008 revenues of $6.2 billion, Hamilton Sundstrand is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Conn. The company designs, manufactures and services aerospace systems and provides integrated system solutions for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft. It also is a supplier for international space programs.

Nauka, a joint venture between Hamilton Sundstrand and OAO NPO Nauka, was established in 1994 in Moscow and specializes in development and production of heat exchangers for commercial aircraft air-conditioning systems. The heat exchangers manufactured by the company are successfully operated by aircraft manufacturers including Boeing, Airbus, Embraer, Bombardier and Tupolev.

United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries worldwide.
