Diverse Leadership Reflects Breadth of OASIS Open Standards Consortium

OASIS, the international open standards consortium, today announced the results of recent Board of Directors elections that reflect the group's international and organizational diversity. European entrepreneur, Peter Brown of Pensive S.A., was chosen to serve as Board Chair, and Bob Freund of Japan-based software company, Hitachi, assumed the role of Vice Chair. Jim Hughes of Microsoft and Frederick Hirsh of Nokia will continue in their respective roles as Treasurer and Secretary.

New Board members, Dave Ings of IBM and Paul Lipton of CA, join returning directors, Mike DeNicola of Fujitsu, Robert Glushko of the University of California at Berkeley, Eduardo Gutentag of Sun Microsystems, individual member Paul Knight, and Jeff Mischkinsky of Oracle. Together these Board members provide an accurate representation of the OASIS membership at-large, which includes multi-national corporations, academia, start-up companies, governments, and independent consultants from around the world.

"The geographic and organizational diversity of the Board bodes well for ensuring that the broad interests of the OASIS membership at-large will be represented in the year ahead," said Brown. "It's exciting to note that individuals and organizations from all over the globe realize their voice can be heard at every stage of the standards lifecycle. This reflects, more than ever, the valuable contribution that OASIS continues to make in open standards for the information society and its increased relevance around the globe."

"People are participating in OASIS at greater levels than ever before--and the standards we're creating are all the better for the diversity of their perspectives," added Freund.

On behalf of the membership, OASIS executive director, Laurent Liscia, expressed gratitude to the outgoing Board Chair, Eduardo Gutentag, for his dedication to the principles of openness and transparency and his tireless advocacy on behalf of OASIS. He also thanked Jeff Mischkinsky, the outgoing Vice Chair.

"Together, Eduardo and Jeff have helped forge OASIS into the leading standards organization that it is today, and we look forward to their continued contributions on the Board," said Liscia.

The consortium also recognized departing Board members, Michael Winters of IBM, and Claus von Riegen of SAP, for their many years of service and guidance.
