Bank Rakyat Indonesia posts US$345.7 mln H1 net profit

State-owned BANK RAKYAT INDONESIA (BRI)(JSX:BBRI) in the first half of 2009 posted a net profit of Rp3.492 trillion (US$345.7 million), up 23 per cent from the same period a year earlier. "The net profit was the result of rising interest income," BRI president director Sofyan Bashir said on Monday.
* Income rose to Rp16.840 trillion in the first semester of 2009 from Rp13.208 trillion in the same period a year earlier, with net interest income growing to Rp10.931 trillion from Rp9.574 trillion.
* Operating expenses meanwhile rose to Rp5.238 trillion in the first half of 2009 from Rp4.984 trillion in the first semester of 2008, causing operating profit to increase to Rp4.843 trillion from Rp4.078 trillion.
