The London Business School Delivers Best-in-Class Wireless to Faculty and Students With Wi-Fi From Aruba Networks

Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN), a global leader in wireless LANs and secure mobility solutions, today announced that its adaptive Wi-Fi networks have been deployed by The London Business School. Named the world's leading business school in the Financial Times MBA 2009 report, The London Business School was founded in 1964 and today supports over 1,700 degree students and 8,000 executive education students. Upon final commissioning of its newest 802.11n expansion this summer, the entire North London campus will have 100% wireless coverage. The wireless network was supplied by authorized Aruba partner, Pervasive Networks.

"Incoming students expect wireless connectivity everywhere, and as a result network performance can significantly affect a school's reputation," said James Brookes, Director of IT for The London Business School. "Our students are professionals with deep experience in the corporate world, and we want them to have an enterprise-class wireless service that is at least as good as what they experience at their own companies. Our Aruba Wi-Fi solution does just that -- it exceeds expectations."

Tomo, the Senior Network Engineer at the London Business School, added that "the network is exceptionally reliable, the radios adapt automatically to avoid interference emanating from our many neighbours, and the system adjusts dynamically to the changing user population to ensure everyone always has enough bandwidth. We spend less than half a day a month on wireless operations management, freeing IT to focus on school-related business."

To deliver a best-in-class wireless experience, Aruba's Adaptive Radio Management (ARM) technology lowers deployment and maintenance costs by automating site surveys and using infrastructure-based controls to optimize the performance of Wi-Fi clients in real-time. Acting on their own, Wi-Fi clients do not always work cooperatively with other clients, or select the optimal band, channel, and access point. These issues are exacerbated in settings with densely packed users such as university classrooms, lecture halls and libraries. ARM uses a variety of techniques to control how Wi-Fi clients interact, thereby ensuring that data, voice, and video applications have sufficient network resources, including airtime, to operate properly.

"Wireless networks have become a competitive differentiator among universities, and London Business School students know they can depend on the wire-like reliability offered by Aruba's always-on wireless," said Bob Vickers, sales director of Aruba UK and Ireland. "802.11n will allow the school to expand its data, voice, and video services without compromising performance, providing a growth path for innovative educational applications in the years ahead."
