EJL Wireless Research Reports Global PTP Radio Shipments Grew 25.8% in 2008

The global point to point (PTP) radio market grew by 25.8 % in 2008 and reached 1.4 million units, according to the latest report from EJL Wireless Research titled "Global Digital PTP Radio Market Analysis and Forecast, 2008-2013 5th Edition." "The PTP radio market continued to show strong growth despite the financial issues impacting other segments within the wireless infrastructure market," says founder and President, Earl Lum. EJL Wireless Research is forecasting that the PTP radio market will continue to see moderate growth through 2010.

NEC Microwave managed to edge out Ericsson again for the second year in a row. Huawei Technologies is the latest base station supplier to enter the market with self manufactured radio links in 2008. "Huawei reached sixth worldwide in its first year in our market share rankings and is poised to enter the top five in 2009," says Lum.

"Asia Pacific and India remained the drivers for the industry while hybrid TDM/IP radios became the second leading category in interface types," says Lum. 70GHz radio shipments grew 48% in 2008 and are poised to ramp in 2010 as LTE networks are deployed in the United States.

The report provides a unique perspective on the global shipments and demand for digital PTP radio equipment covering all vendors including Alcatel-Lucent, Beijing Skyway Technologies, Ceragon Networks, Ericsson, Harris Stratex Networks, Huawei technologies, NEC, Nera Networks, Nokia Siemens Networks, and SIAE Microelettronica.
