Company: Microsemi Corp. (MSCC)
Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high performance analog/mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors, announced today the expansion of its line of complete high performance system solutions for powering light emitting diode (LED) backlit displays. The family now includes 3-string applications for 3.5 inch to 7-inch displays.
The new modules, designated LXMG1930-28(tm), join Microsemi's recently introduced LXMG1960-28(tm) high performance LED driver modules for 6-string applications. Together, the modules form a family that gives designers of medical, point-of-sale (POS), kiosk, ATM and lottery terminals a choice of easy "plug and play" options for their applications.
Based on Microsemi's LX1996(tm) LED driver integrated circuit, the new module family offers high performance features including 1 percent string-to-string current matching for optimum panel brightness uniformity, a wide 4.75V-28V input voltage capability, multiple dimming options with ratios up to 1,000:1, and safety protection against LED shorts, over-voltage and over-temperature operation.
"Our new 3-string modules come in response to the positive reception given to the 6-string modules we introduced at the 2009 International Society for Information exhibition in June," said Irene Signorino, Director of Marketing in Microsemi's Analog Mixed Signal Group. "This product family addresses requests we've had from long-time Microsemi customers to supply LED solutions with the same performance, quality, reliability, service, and supply chain structure they've experienced with Microsemi's proven CCFL complete system solutions."
KEY FEATURES
* High Performance LED driver consists of boost converter and
three programmable precision current sinks.
* PanelMatch(tm) technology allows programming LED string
currents between 15mA and 50mA in 5mA steps, so that a single
module can drive a wide range of panel designs.
* StayLIT(tm) technology allows continuous operation if one or
more strings experience short-circuits or are open.
* 4.75V to 28V input voltage enables input supplies to be used
without external boost circuits.
* Analog, digital, and analog+digital dimming options for energy
conservation and enhanced dimming ratio.
* External thermistor signal integration capability to protect
LEDs in an over-temperature environment.
* Other safety features include protection from output LED short
circuits, over-voltage, and over temperature operation.
Microsemi's proven IP-differentiated lighting products have provided outstanding performance and functionality in demanding LCD TV, notebook computer, automotive, and other display platforms and applications. All display backlight driving products, including the new additions, are designed to be easily enhanced with the addition of Microsemi's complementary light sensor and color-management system solutions.
