CITY- (Old system of Khuli Katchehry, Sector Citizen Committees being revived to involve residents in development projects: Chairman CDA)

Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Imtiaz Inayat Elahi Wednesday said that the old system of Khuli Katchehries and Sector Citizen Committees are being revived to involve the residents in the development projects being undertaken in their areas as well as to resolve the issues of water supply, sanitation, sewerage and other problems faced by the residents of Islamabad.

Speaking at inaugural ceremony of improvement of water supply system in Sector G-11/1 here, he said the names of the Members of Sector Citizen Committee are being finalized and would be announced very soon.

Director General Water Management briefed the Chairman CDA about the longstanding issue of non-availability of water in some pockets of G-11/1 from the existence source of water supply due to uneven level of the ground.

Resultantly, he informed, the residents of the area were facing acute shortage of water in some pockets located at the high level. The Chairman CDA inaugurated an under-ground water reservoir / sump having capacity of 125,000 gallons of water, which has been constructed at Sector G-11/1 in consultation with the Welfare Committee to receive water from the source and thereafter pump it to worst-hit areas with the help of three (03) turbine pumps.

He said that with the construction of under-ground water tank, a sustainable improvement in the supply of water has been achieved and the number of complaints in the area has been decreased 80% to 90% and this has helped us to over come the long standing issue of non-availability of portable water in Sector G-11/1. He agreed to the request of the residents and ordered to install a filtration plant at the same location where the under-ground water tank has been constructed for the residents of Sector G-11/1.

He also directed the concerned quarters to increase the timings of water supply from the newly constructed water tank by one hour to make water available to the residents all the time. He also said that one water tanker would be placed at the disposal of the Welfare Committee of Sector G-11/1 to overcome any shortages of water anymore.

The Chairman CDA said that the up-lift and up-gradation of neglected sectors like Sectors of G and I Series would be given preference and maximum funds would be allocated for betterment of these sectors. He also said that CDA has launched a campaign for water conservation and all those found wasting water, would be penalized. The representatives of the Welfare Committee of Sector G-11/1, while thanking the Chairman CDA for resolving a 15-years old issue of water shortage apprised the Chairman CDA about various problems being faced by them and requested him to remove the encroachments on the Service Road (West) in Sector G-11.
