Open Invention Network May Buy Linux Patents from Allied Security Trust (IBM,RHT,NOVL,MSFT,CSCO,MOT,JAVA,VZ,GOOG)

9/8/2009 - The Open Invention Network, which consists of member companies including IBM (NYSE:IBM), RedHat (NYSE:RHT) and Novell (NASDAQ:NOVL), may buy patents related to Linux open-source technology from Allied Security Trust (AST), according to a Zacks report. The patents were sold to AST by Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) in a private auction after the company bought them from Silicon Graphics. AST, which buys patents with the intent of licensing them to former owners and eventually selling them, consists of member firms including Cisco (NASDAQ:CSCO), Motorola (NYSE:MOT), Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ:JAVA), Verizon (NYSE:VZ), Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and more.
