AGL Energy, Origin Energy and TRUenergy are the leading candidates to acquire the state-owned energy retailers in New South Wales. The State Government will shortly seek expressions of interest in the assets, but it has signalled that it could opt to divest one of the businesses via an IPO unless a fourth bidder enters the fray. China Huaneng Group could be a potential bidder.
