FileCatalyst Webmail Enables Large File Transfers for Christie Digital Systems

Unlimi-Tech Software, Inc. is pleased to announce that Christie Digital Systems Canada, Inc., a leader in visual solutions for business, entertainment and industry, has adopted FileCatalyst Webmail for transfer of large files.

FileCatalyst Webmail (http://www.filecatalyst.com/products/fcwm-overview.html) allows Christie's employees, partners, and affiliates to share digital assets such as large technical drawings using nothing more than a web browser and email address. Previous to adopting the FileCatalyst solution, files were exchanged as email attachments, which were restricted in terms of size. Standard email also provided very little in terms of tracking.

Using FileCatalyst Webmail, files are sent from the user's local machine or from their online storage area. Transaction history provides an easy mechanism for re-sending files or initiating a similar transfer without the need to re-upload files. Files themselves are managed by FileCatalyst Webmail, and the email server sends lightweight text/HTML messages. This saves an enormous amount of overhead for Christie's mail server.

"We knew there had to be a better way of sending large files, but weren't sure how to keep everything within the realm of email," said Ashish Kudsia, Sr. Manager - GIS Network/Systems/Telecom, Christie. "FileCatalyst Webmail uses tools that people already know and already have installed. Once we made the switch, users were able to immediately transfer files without additional training, in a way that felt simple and familiar."

"Email has never been meant for file transfer, but it still gets used so often because it's easy," says Chris Bailey, CEO of FileCatalyst. "With file sizes getting larger all the time, email just isn't cutting it for most organizations. Christie came to us looking for a solution that was just as easy to use, and the perfect fit was FileCatalyst Webmail. It's great to know that they've also been digging into features like individual and group storage areas."

On top of solving the email attachment problem and providing online storage, FileCatalyst Webmail offers tools to track activity and manage files. Administrators and users can quickly recover details such as delivery dates and a list of included files. Administrators can generate reports, monitor usage, and automatically delete old files to free up disk space.
