Japan's JTB Corp. will Oct. 1 merge two subsidiaries that sell tours with a targeted purpose, such as sports and language-learning packages, amid growing demand for such travel.
JTB Sun & Sun Co., which markets such sports tours as skiing and diving, and JTB Global Club Inc., which handles overseas language-training trips and homestays, will merge into JTB Gaiarec Inc.
The new company will expand tour lineups, combining the know-how of the two predecessors, which had combined sales of 10.2 billion yen (US$112.8 million) in fiscal 2008.
JTB Gaiarec will be capitalized at 100 million yen, with 99 per cent owned by JTB and the other 1 per cent by the travel agency's advertising unit JIC Corp.
