Apoquindo Reports Updates on Exploration Activities at the Chalcocite-Enriched Zafranal Porphyry Cu-Au Project, Department of Arequipa, Peru

Apoquindo Minerals Inc. (TSX VENTURE:AQM) (BVLAC:AQM), through its wholly owned subsidiary, Minera Koritambo S.A.C. (the "Company"), has continued its exploration efforts on the Zafranal Cu-Au Porphyry Project ("Project") located in the prolific Paleocene copper porphyry belt of Southern Peru. Zafranal was optioned from Teck Resources Limited's Peruvian subsidiary, Teck Cominco Peru S.A. ("Teck") in May of this year (See May 14th, 2009 News Release).

Field crews have continued remapping the Zafranal Main Zone where they have recently completed a systematic surface rock sampling program (100 meter grid). Assay results obtained from rock sampling completed to date show a distinct copper anomaly in the leach capping overlying the enriched zone identified by Teck in its 2004 and 2005 drilling campaigns (please refer to the Apoquindo website for Teck's drill results: http://www.apoquindominerals.com/s/Zafranal.asp).

The 2009 results show this geochemical anomaly extending at least 1km to the west and northwest, beyond the 3km x 1km zone of phyllic alteration that originally defined the Zafranal Main Zone (see new geochem map posted on web site, http://www.apoquindominerals.com/s/Zafranal.asp). Subsequent geological mapping in this area has identified previously un-mapped, intense phyllic alteration in porphyritic intrusions. These quartz diorite bodies exhibit an intense jarosite-hematite leached capping. The extent of these intrusions is not yet known, and the extensions of this intense phyllic alteration/favorable leached capping remain open to the west and north.

Field work is beginning on the satellite prospects within the Project (please refer to the location map of satellite properties posted on website http://www.apoquindominerals.com/s/Zafranal.asp). Crews are initiating work at the Sicera Sur, Campanero, Sicera Norte, Los Ganchos, and Rosario prospects, where extensive areas of phyllic alteration and leached capping are similar to that observed at the Zafranal Main Zone.

The Company is also advancing the environmental permits needed to start the new drilling campaign. The Category II permit is expected during the 4th quarter of 2009. Construction of access roads and the new exploration camp are expected to begin later this month. The Zafranal Project is located close to the Pan-American Highway, which allows year-round access and exploration.

Zafranal is located 90 km northwest of Arequipa in the Department of Arequipa, Southern Peru. Zafranal was first discovered by Teck in 2003 through a generative exploration program within the northern segment of the Paleocene Porphyry Copper Belt of Peru which includes mega-deposits Toquepala (770Mt @ 0.74% Cu), Quellaveco (213Mt @ 0.94% Cu, 0.014% Mo, 1.74g/t Ag, and 761Mt @0.57% Cu, 0.23% Mo, 2.32g/t Ag), Cuajone (61Mt @ 0.49% Cu oxides, 1212Mt @ 0.64% Cu, Cerro Verde (1000 Mt@ 0.51% Cu), and Cerro Negro (64 Mt @ 0.56 Cu oxides).

Exploration efforts by Teck between 2003 and 2008 at Zafranal include a total of 11,805 m of drilling in 36 holes (32 reverse circulation holes, 4 diamond). A few select drill results to date include:

- 70m @ 1.08% Cu & 0.25 g/t Au (RC hole 7)

- 110m @ 1.02% Cu (RC hole 8)

- 110m @ 1.22% Cu (DH hole 1 -- twin of RC 8)

- 77m @ 1.80% Cu & 0.21 g/t Au (DH hole 4)

Dr. Tom Henricksen, consultant geologist of the Company and Chief Geolgogist for Minera KoriTambo, the Company's Qualified Person for the purposes of NI 43-101, has approved the information contained in this news release.
