9/15/2009 - A group called the Open Database Alliance got the European Union's attention in its goal of keeping Sun Microsystems' database software, MySQL, lives on as a cheap open source alternative, according to a MarketWatch report. The EU has decided to hold up Oracle's (NASDAQ:ORCL) proposed $5.6 billion acquisition of Sun to address if it could hinder competition and MySQL. The delay could last until January. Alliance representative Henrik Ingo said, "They were mostly interested in us because it was suggested we could be competing . . . We had to explain that this is not entirely true."
