Global new energy companies, such as Q-Cells of Germany and SunPower of the US, thought that Chinese new energy companies gained a large amount of subsidies and hurt their competitiveness, and reported their complaint to local governments and locations.
Two of German solar companies, Conergy AG and SolarWorld AG, are reported to think that Chinese companies receive improper support and hope that the German government and the European Union (EU) can discourage renewable energy investors from buying their panels and cells.
At the beginning of this month, the two companies, along with some more producers, tried to persuade the government and the EU to launch antidumping investigations into China-made solar cell panels. Conergy and SolarWorld stressed that Chinese companies could not make money without state support.
Industry insiders said that European photovoltaic (PV) companies incurred huge losses amid the global financial crisis. Since the end of 2008, over ten European companies, with a production capacity of 500MW to 1GW each, have gone broke.
