China Unicom GSM User Base Reached 141.864mn

China Unicom (Hong Kong) Limited (NYSE: CHU, HKSE: 0762 and SHSE: 600050) lured 807,000 GSM cellular service subscribers in August 2009, driving the total number of its GSM cellular service users to 141.864 million, according to the telecom carrier's monthly operational statistics unveiled on September 21.
The number of local access subscribers reduced 482,000 to 107.639 million. In contrast, the number of broadband users increased 817,000, pushing the company's broadband user base to 36.598 million.
Its archrival China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL) had had a user base of 503 million in total by August 31, 2009.
Newly-added users in August reached 5.259 million and mounted to 45.686 million in the first eight months of the year, namely a monthly rise of 5.711 million on average.
As the carrier of the nation's homegrown TD-SCDMA standard, China Mobile had had 1.327 million TD-SCDMA users by the end of August.
