The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance Welcomes Tyco International as New Board Member

The Physical Security Interoperability Alliance (www.psialliance.org), a global consortium of physical security providers focused on promoting interoperability of IP-enabled devices in the security industry, is pleased to announce that Tyco International has joined the organization's Board.

Tyco joins nearly 50 member companies that work in conjunction to promote the interoperability of IP-enabled security devices across every sector of the industry including video surveillance, access control, storage and recording devices. PSIA is driven by its members to promote interoperability through the development of standards and specifications that, when widely adopted, will reduce development costs for manufacturers, lead to ease of installation for systems integrators and enable end users to choose a best-in-breed solution regardless of brand.

"PSIA is doing important work that promises to guide the direction of the security industry," said Chuck Hutzler, Vice President of Product Management for Tyco Safety Products, a business unit of Tyco International. "We are pleased to contribute to developing and executing standards that will make our industry stronger, and ultimately, allow our customers to do their jobs faster, more efficiently, and thus more cost-effectively."

PSIA's 1.0 API Media Device specification, which has been reviewed by technical experts that represent all segments of the IP security market, enables interoperability between disparate products, expanding opportunities for companies that provide solutions to the physical security marketplace.

"Tyco is committed to interoperability among physical security solutions through their open platform strategy, making them welcome addition to our alliance," said David Bunzel, Executive Director of the PSIA. "The addition of Tyco's support and vision will enable PSIA to deliver on its objective to create interoperability between all IP devices in the physical security market, which includes cameras, analytics, storage and access control systems; the ability to communicate in a consistent way will allow the industry to truly take advantage of the IP infrastructure."

"Companies that offer multiple technologies such as video, access control and recording devices as Tyco does are important to PSIA's membership as it builds our mission to develop standards for complete IP solutions," said Robert Hile, Chairman of PSIA and Director, Integrated Security Solutions, Siemens Building Technologies. "The integration community will benefit significantly from solutions-based standard development as it simplifies the installation process, lowering integration cost. This savings, in most cases, will be passed directly on to the end user."

The 1.0 specification is available free of charge and can be viewed at www.psialliance.org.
