Samsung Electronics releases 1st open source-based mobile

SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO. (KSE:005930), the world's second largest handset maker, said Friday that it released its first open source-based mobile phone exclusively for a British mobile carrier. Samsung Electronics said its new touchscreen device based on the LiMo platform will be available for subscribers to a new service called "Vodafone 360," which is provided by the world's largest mobile telecommunications network company Vodafone Inc.
* The LiMo platform is an operating system and software development platform for mobile devices, developed by the LiMo Foundation.
* The foundation is a consortium of mobile industry leaders working together to deliver a free and open software source for use by the whole mobile industry, based on the Linux computer operating system.
