Johnson Matthey acquires assets of Applied Utility Systems from Catalytic Solutions

Johnson Matthey Plc, a UK-based specialty chemicals group, has acquired the assets of Applied Utility Systems, Inc. (AUS) from Catalytic Solutions, Inc. for $8.5 million in cash plus $1.5 million subject to certain contingencies. Both AUS and Catalytic Solutions are based in the US.
AUS is a designer and supplier of selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems for controlling emissions of oxides of nitrogen (NOx) in a range of applications.
Catalytic Solutions is engaged in the manufacture and supply of catalysts for motor vehicle (gasoline and diesel engines), energy applications (gas turbines, boilers, gensets) and petrochemical and refinery applications.

Deal Rationale
The acquisition will allow Johnson Matthey's Stationary Emissions Control (SEC) business as a SCR system supplier in the market segments, complementing its existing NOx emission control business activities for coal fired power plants, process industries and internal combustion engines for power generation and marine applications. It will also enable Johnson Matthey to increase its sales of catalysts and emission control systems into the growing global market for NOx control and to expand the range of applications that its SEC business serves.
