The commercial court of Versailles, France, has agreed to suspend the liquidation of French unit Nortel Networks SA for at least two months to allow the move to be in step with disposals being handled in the US courts. Nortel Networks SA, which was due to conclude its liquidation by 28 November now has until 28 January, and more extensions can be sought, writes AFP, citing Nortel France president Michel Clement. The unit has so far cut 467 of its 700 jobs. Of the 230 remaining workers, 145 are in the GSM and GSM-R division, set to be auctioned on 9 November, around 50 work in financial, legal or communication departments, and the remainder work in the enterprise and core network businesses. Nortel's other subsidiary in the country, Nortel Networks France, is not involved in the liquidation. Of its 120 employees, 55 will be transferred to Avaya as part of the latter's acquisition of the Nortel enterprise solutions division. The remainder work on fibre optics and core networks.
