Vodafone Hutchison tie-up costs 320 jobs

Some 320 management staff have lost their jobs due to the fusion of Hutchison Telecommunications Australia and Vodafone Australia. All employees had to reapply for the positions that were duplicated in the merger, and in a separate move the newly combined entity has laid off 450 call centre workers in Victoria as it outsources to Tasmania and India. At some stage in the future, the two mobile telephony carriers' networks are also to be merged.
