10/6/2009 - Google's (NASDAQ:GOOG) philanthropic arm has partnered with privately held Energy Inc to bring consumers an alternative to utilities' slow-coming smart meters, according to a Reuters report that cites the Google blog. In February, Google launched software called PowerMeter, which lets consumers monitor energy usage in their home. That software required that a utility company install a smart meter. Now with Energy Inc's $200 TED 5000, consumers can use Google's software to track how much energy they are using without a smart meter.
