Listeria Outbreak, Recession Cutbacks, Natural Disasters, Volatile Issues ... An IABC Conference Experience

Taking home tactics to respond effectively when the crisis hits is one of the key benefits for delegates at this year's International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Western Canada Conference in Banff, Alberta. Professional communicators from across Canada and the northwestern United States are coming together this November to gain insight into effective crisis response through best practices applied by organizations like Maple Leaf Foods and lessons learned from experiences like Hurricane Katrina.

"This fall's IABC Conference takes high profile, international conference speakers and showcases their expertise in an informal - and affordable - venue to provide first class professional development on a small budget," says Shauna Lowry, Chair, IABC Canada Western Region. "This Western Canada Conference is the only Canadian IABC conference in 2009 and it has a tradition of excellence that is evident again this year. Delegates are sure to return to their organizations with new ideas, insights and strategies for success."

The IABC Canada Western Region, Ranges to the Ridge: Guiding our audiences through the communications experience, is taking place November 8 - 10, 2009 at the Banff Park Lodge Resort Hotel and Conference Centre in Banff National Park. In addition to sessions on crisis communications and issues management, delegates will gain social media savvy and discover new ways to communicate effectively to a multi-generational workplace as well as a number of other featured sessions designed for today's communication challenges.

The conference also features the Silver Leaf Gala, celebrating the 2009 winners of the national IABC Silver Leaf Awards and the two recipients of the prestigious Master Communicator Award - Ivan Muzychka, Associate Director (Communications), for Memorial University of Newfoundland and Jennifer Wah, Principal Consultant for Forwards Communications Inc of Vancouver, BC. The IABC Master Communicator designation is the association's highest honour in Canada and recognizes outstanding service and leadership in IABC, and thoughtful leadership in the communications profession.
