Marvell Releases Software Enabling 3G Signal Conversion Into Wi-Fi (MRVL,NVTL)

10/13/2009-Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ:MRVL) has reportedly created software that can offer mobile consumer devices like laptops, iPods and other devices with Wi-Fi by way of a smartphone's data plan. In short, the software basically turns a smartphone into an internet router found commonplace in coffee shops. The software converts 3G radio waves into a Wi-Fi signal, however, analysts doubt carriers will enable this feature until they find a way to generate revenue from the capability. Novatel Wireless Inc. (NASDAQ:NVTL) has recently put Marvell's new technology to use in its Mi-Fi gadget, which is a small rectangular shaped device that creates a Wi-Fi signal, enabling as many as five users to connect to the internet. "This is about the functionality of features. What we are announcing is where we see the market heading," said Weili Dai, Marvell co-founder.
