Protalix BioTherapeutics (PLX) said today its treatment for the genetic disorder Gaucher disease met its primary goal in a late-state clinical study.
Patients in the study who cannot break down a certain type of fat molecule as a result of the disease showed encouraging efficacy of the drug, Uplyso, as well as a high safety profile and low antibody formation.
Protalix hopes to complete submission of the marketing application with the FDA by the end of the year. Its drug would compete with Genzyme's (GENZ) popular Cerezyme.
Protalix shares are trading up over 6.4 percent.
