FP Newspapers Income Fund (TSX:FP.UN) today announced that effective Saturday, October 31 the Winnipeg Free Press will start publishing a Free Press Weekend Edition. In addition to the regular Saturday sections, the Weekend Edition will be increased to include valuable content such as the homes, books, and personal finance pages which were previously included in the Sunday edition. Effective November 1, a Sunday home-delivered newspaper will no longer be available. A compact-size product called "Free Press On 7" will be available for purchase on Sundays at retail outlets and vending boxes in and around the City of Winnipeg.
For most of the Free Press's 137-year history, the newspaper has been a six-day-a-week publication, but this changed in 1985, when a Sunday edition was started. "The Free Press will continue to search for ways to improve efficiencies while at the same time preserving the quality of Winnipeg's best-read daily newspaper," said Bob Cox, Publisher of the Winnipeg Free Press.
FP Canadian Newspapers Limited Partnership owns the Winnipeg Free Press, the Brandon Sun, and their related businesses, as well as Canstar Community News Limited, the publisher of seven community and special interest newspapers in the Winnipeg region. The Winnipeg Free Press newspaper publishes seven days a week, serving Winnipeg and Manitoba with an average Monday through Saturday circulation of approximately 129,000 copies. The Brandon Sun also publishes seven days a week, serving the region with an average circulation of approximately 14,600 copies.
