Andreas Kuehlmann Named CEDA President; Donatella Sciuto Appointed President-Elect

Cadence Fellow and Director, Cadence Laboratories Andreas Kuehlmann will become president of the IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) Jan. 1, 2010.

He succeeds John Darringer, director of the Design Automation Department at IBM Research, who served in the role for two years and will become past president.

Additional members of Kuehlmann's team include Professor Donatella Sciuto from Politecnico di Milano in Italy, who will become president-elect, and William Joyner, director of Computer-Aided Design and Test at Semiconductor Research Corp., who will become secretary.

Sani Nassif, manager of the IBM Austin Research Laboratory, will serve as vice president of conferences. Professor David Atienza Alonso from the Department of Computer Architecture and Automation at Complutense University of Madrid was elected vice president of finance. Professor Rajesh Gupta from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of California, San Diego, will remain as vice president of publications. Shishpal Rawat, director of electronic design automation (EDA) investments for Intel Corp., will continue in the role of vice president of technical activities, a position he has held for one year.

Each will serve as a CEDA officer for a two-year term that begins Jan. 1, 2010, and runs through Dec. 31, 2011.

"I am delighted with the new Executive team," said John Darringer, president of CEDA. "There is great mix of experience and new talent that will strengthen CEDA's support of the EDA community."

The IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) provides a focal point for EDA activities spread across six IEEE societies (Antennas and Propagation, Circuits and Systems, Computer, Electron Devices, Microwave Theory and Techniques, and Solid State Circuits). The Council sponsors or co-sponsors over a dozen key EDA conferences, including the Design Automation Conference (DAC) and the International Conference on Computer Aided Design (ICCAD), Design Automation and Test in Europe (DATE) and events at Embedded Systems Week (ESWeek).
