VERS was developed by Public Record Office Victoria to ensure long-term management and preservation of the state's electronic records. It lays down a framework of standards, guidance, training, consultancy and implementation projects, and has been adopted as a best practice records management standard both locally and internationally.

As part of its ECM Suite, Open Text offers numerous solutions such as CLM Services for Microsoft SharePoint, Extended ECM for SAP Solutions, and Social Media which have tight integrations to Open Text Records Management.
