Balfour Beatty Communities Is Named Among Best Places to Work by Philadelphia Business Journal

The Philadelphia Business Journal has named Balfour Beatty Communities, LLC as one of its 2009 Best Places to Work in the greater Philadelphia area. The annual award recognizes companies' achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of benefits, company culture, and working conditions. Balfour Beatty executives accepted the award on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at an awards reception held at the Pyramid Club in Philadelphia.

Balfour Beatty was one of hundreds of local businesses to enter in this year's competition, which honors companies that have successfully gone above and beyond in their efforts to engage and reward employees. The top 60 companies identified in 2009 were sorted into five categories: small, medium, large, extra-large, and businesses headquartered elsewhere.

"We are deeply honored to be named as one of the Philadelphia Business Journal's Best Places to Work in 2009," said Bruce Robinson, President and Chief Executive Officer of Balfour Beatty Communities. "Our employees are the backbone of our company, and it is especially rewarding knowing that this honor came directly from them. We are proud to have created a working environment that fosters trust, respect, and teamwork. Our commitment to providing high quality, caring and responsive communities for our nation's service members is mirrored in our efforts to maintain a positive, employee-centered workplace where our team is empowered to best serve our residents."

Employees of nominated companies were asked to complete an online questionnaire, with top companies receiving high marks in categories such as team effectiveness, trust with coworkers, alignment with goals, trust in senior leaders, and people practices including respect, recognition, salary and benefits.

"Hundreds of companies are nominated for this award each year, but this is no popularity contest," said Philadelphia Business Journal special reports editor Sonja Sherwood. "To advance in the Best Places to Work contest, companies must have earned the trust and loyalty of their employees."

Based just outside of Philadelphia in Newtown Square, Balfour Beatty Communities is committed to providing high quality homes and building welcoming communities for the nation's military members and their families on bases throughout the country. The Company's mission is to create family-oriented communities where service members and their families will feel at home, starting with high quality construction and continuing with professional management.
