Invesco signs agreement to acquire Morgan Stanley's retail asset management operations for USD1.5bn

Investment management company Invesco Ltd (NYSE:IVZ) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Morgan Stanley's retail asset management business, including Van Kampen Investments, for a total of USD1.5bn, the company declared on Monday.

Approved by the boards of directors of both companies, the transaction consists of USD500m in cash and 44.1m shares, representing USD1bn in Invesco equity and giving Morgan Stanley a 9.4% equity interest in the company.

Through this acquisition Invesco acquires a diversified business with USD119bn in assets under management in equity, fixed income, alternatives and unit investment trusts. It will also add approximately 650 investment, distribution and operations support professionals worldwide.

The deal is scheduled to be completed in mid-2010, subject to regulatory, client and fund shareholder approvals.
