Union Pacific Railroad has selected Teradata, a provider of data warehousing and analytic applications, to upgrade and expand its active enterprise data warehouse.
Union Pacific had relied upon Teradata for its enterprise data warehouse since 1992.
This latest upgrade is expected to deliver a 40% increase in data warehouse capacity and includes the Teradata Disaster Recovery Solution and Teradata Viewpoint, the portal-based system management solution that allows access to Teradata system performance information from virtually anywhere and allows updates to be deployed once for automatic installation to all users.
The Teradata solution also includes Protegrity's Defiance DPS that reportedly enables embedded encryption and decryption within the Teradata database for enhanced data security.
Tony Palladino, vice president of Teradata, said: "Teradata's active enterprise data warehouse helps Union Pacific to deliver greater fuel efficiency, better asset utilization and improved productivity, while meeting Union Pacific's customers' service requirements, all of which are critical to remaining a leader in the highly competitive rail industry."
