Dopod Launches Android Smartphones

Shanghai-based Dopod Communication Corp. launched two types of cellphones equipped with the Google Android operating systems for consumers in Mainland China lately, citing a report.
Named A6288 and A3288, the two types of smartphones are similar to Hero G3, and Tattoo, another two types of Android mobile phones put up by Dopod's parent company HTC Corp. (TPE: 2498) in other countries and territories. Both A6288 and A3288 adopt the Dopod Sense user interfaces and are compatible with the WCDMA and WIFI/WAPI services.
Dopod earlier launched its A6188 smartphones (OPhones) with the OMS operating systems developed by China Mobile Ltd. (NYSE: CHL and SEHK: 0941) and also plans to put up Windows Mobile 6.5 cellphones compatible with the EVDO/GSM and TD-SCDMA services in November 2009.
In addition, a spokesperson of Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) declined to comment on the report that the company is to develop Google-branded netbooks with the Chrome operating systems.
