Absolute Software Congratulates Winners of the Intel Schools of Distinction Awards

Absolute(R) Software Corporation ("Absolute" or the "Company") (TSX: ABT), the leading provider of firmware-based, patented, computer theft recovery, data protection and secure IT asset management solutions congratulates the winners of the Intel Schools of Distinction Awards (Intel SODA) and announces that it is providing its IT asset management, data protection and theft recovery solution, Computrace(R), to award recipients.

Intel's SODA program annually honors U.S. schools that demonstrate 21st century teaching and learning environments that promote excellence in math and science. Intel received more than 700 applications this year, and from those, selected six winners (one elementary, middle, and high school in each of two categories). Winners will benefit from the tracking, remote data delete and theft recovery capabilities of their select licenses of Computrace Plus by Absolute Software.

"We are honored to participate in this philanthropic endeavor along with Intel," said David Hawks, Business Development Manager - Education at Absolute Software. "We hope that the cost savings possible with Computrace will allow school boards to increase their funding for Science and Math programs."

Representatives from Absolute will be joining celebratory events at winning schools throughout October and November 2009.

How Computrace Works

The Computrace Agent that powers Absolute Software solutions is embedded in the firmware of computers right at the factory or it can be installed by the customer.* When embedded in the firmware of a computer, the stealthy Computrace Agent is capable of surviving operating system re-installations, as well as hard-drive reformats, replacements and re-imaging. The Agent can be activated by customers when they purchase a subscription with terms ranging from one to four years.

The Agent regularly contacts the Absolute Monitoring Center - sending location and IT asset management information that is accessible via the Absolute Customer Center web portal. Customers log in to the Absolute Customer Center to access that information and to perform tasks such as managing their IT asset population, running reports, remotely deleting data and plotting the location of their computers and mobile devices on a map.

If a computer is stolen, the Absolute Theft Recovery Team can use location information sent by the computer and forensically mine it using a variety of procedures including user input capture, registry scanning, file scanning, geolocation, and other investigative techniques to determine who has the computer and where it is located. Absolute then works with local law enforcement to help recover the computer.

If a computer is equipped with Intel Anti-Theft Technology (Intel AT), IT managers can use Computrace to remotely lock a computer so that it cannot boot and is rendered useless to the unauthorized user. Alternatively, if a computer does not check in with the Absolute Monitoring Center within a pre-determined period of time, Intel AT will automatically lock the computer so that the data on the machine cannot be accessed by an unauthorized user.
