Oct 23, 2009 (TELECOMWORLDWIRE via COMTEX) --
Railway control and communications systems provider Invensys plc (LSE:ISYS) announced on Thursday that it signed a milestone EUR280m contract with Brazilian engineering company Montagens e Projetos Especiais (MPE) and Spanish telecoms specialists Infoglobal, the company disclosed on Friday.
Under the contract, with a 60% share within the consortium, Invensys Rail will install its Sirius Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system to upgrade the signalling and automatic train control on lines 8, 10 and 11 of Sao Paulo's Metro system. Associated rolling stock, WESTRACE interlockings, point machines and LED signals will also be installed.
The new system has been designed to be installed and operated along with the existing signalling system until the project is fully completed, to minimise disruption, as proved by Invensys on metros around the world successfully, it said.
Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos (CPTM) owns and operates the three lines. Line 8 is 35km long with 20 stations; Line 10 is 37km with 15 stations and Line 11 is 37km long with 12 stations, together with total 136 trains and maintenance vehicles operating on them to transport over one million daily passengers.
