MosChip's MCS9990, MCS8142 and MCS8144 Chips Reach Volume Production With PLDA PCI Express IP

PLDA announced that MosChip Semiconductor Technology has launched their MCS9990 PCI Express to USB2.0 host controller, incorporating PLDA's XpressRich2 PCI Express ASIC IP.

MosChip, a provider of connectivity solutions for consumer, industrial and computing applications, used the PLDA XpressRich2 PCI Express IP to provide a PCI Express interconnect within their host controller, helping to enable throughput of up to 2.5 Gbps.

The MCS9990 is a single lane multi function PCI Express to USB2.0 Host Controller. It supports two modes of operation - USB Host mode and OTG mode, selectable through device mode select pins. The PLDA XpressRich2 ASIC IP is a silicon-proven solution for PCI Express Gen1 and Gen2 implementations at 130 nm and smaller geometries. MosChip is in volume production, using PLDA's PCI Express IP, with the MCS9990 and the MCS8142 and MCS8144 network appliance processors.

"We selected PLDA's PCI Express Gen2 solution for our SoC and ASIC products," said Krishnan Venkataraman, VP of Engineering at MosChip. "Our MCS8142/44, Gigabit Ethernet Network Appliance Processor makes use of Root Complex / End Point features and our PCI Express to quad USB2.0 Host Controller, the MCS9990, is EP-based. PLDA's solution is area-performance optimized for our needs."

"MosChip products consistently provide an effective mix of quality design and cost-optimized production," noted Jean-Yves Brena, CEO of PLDA, "Across our entire interconnect product line, which includes PCI Express, USB3 and AMBA products, we strive to deliver the solid design and support required by companies like MosChip."

The PLDA PCI Express ASIC IP product is available to ASIC customers immediately.
