Marks & Spencer to launch cream-colored carrots

Marks & Spencer, a UK-based retailer of clothing, food and home products, will introduce cream carrots in select stores shortly.

The carrots which look like parsnip were organically produced by Steven Jack, a farmer in Moray Firth in Scotland.

Mr Jack was quoted by The Press and Journal as saying: "We are trying to be innovative and come up with new ideas as opposed to going for great volumes of standard produce. We are driven by identifying niche markets.

"Ten years ago when you went to buy peppers, you came out of the shop with a green pepper. Now you can get a pack with a green, red, yellow and orange pepper. We would like to see something similar for carrots."

Simon Coupe, Marks & Spencer agronomist, said: "This speciality organic cream carrot is already prized in Europe and America for its crisp and crunchy texture, and is especially good in salads or cooked the same way you would a classic orange carrot."
